I have been contemplating table top treatments.
Initially I was thinking of laying down Rockler t-slot spaced 3 inches apart from center to center on the t-slot grooves, with the outside slots at ~50 inches to allow holding down a full size piece of plywood.
That was until I counted up 17 rows at 63.5 inches requiring 23x48" t-slots - a whopping cost of $600. This still doesn't include the filler between t-slots (which I was thinking of using some left over bamboo flooring I have since it's the same thickness as the t-slot).
I really like the idea of having a "standardized" workholding solution that I can use with other tools in my shop. The profile of the t-slot appears to be compatible with many accessories and if I wanted to make my own tools it would be pretty easy to interface to. But... the cost is ridiculous and would be a major percentage of the total cost I have invested.
I looked at Orange Aluminum's t-slot, though a third of the cost of Rockler it's profile doesn't look near as useful, and I would have less options for accessories.
There's has to be a solution other than bolting down a sheet of MDF as waste and screwing down work. I can buy a lot of MDF for $600 to $700.
Any one have any suggestions or wisdom for the newb?
