Default Is it still a HArbor Freight 7x10 lathe?

This is my build log of my CNC lathe coming from a Harbor Freight Mini Metal Lathe. I have pretty much scrapped everything... I have followed come others here and decided to cut off the vee ways and cut a master rail and mount linear rails. I am using 12mm linear rails, a 1605 ball screw for the z axis with a 2:1 gt3 belt reduction, still working out the x axis parts, but I know I am using a 1204 ball screw for it. Shout out to CS900 for him designing a 12 position tool turret and him requesting for me to start my own build thread. I have also added a 1" riser block that is kinda not set in stone, I might make it 1.125" so I have a full 5+" ( think hot rolled) swing over the new cross side.

If you take 1/2 a second to look, I have made an extension to m bed because I'm an idiot and didnt check the model I downloaded from GrabCAD at it turns out the model is really a 7x14... I have a 7x10... I ordered everything for a 14" conversion thinking the model was the 10"... apparently I couldn't take the .5 seconds to measure the bed length and confirm it was the right one.

While I could have cut down the linear rails, I'd like to reinstall (and re-engineer) the tailstock(mounted on the same rails) but that will take up the extra 4" that I have recovered with the happy accident.

Ok guys, updates. Sorry it has taken so long, my mill was down, nothing like chasing ghosts but your axis keep just not working in the middle of a production jobs... Anyway, this is a different thread right?

In this picture the headstock is disassembled, old bearings removed and being skim cut flat.

In this picture, I'm surface grinding the top of the headstock. I will be indicting the headstock all assembled (just the spindle parts) and will be setting it true to the spindle. I will be holding a piece of 3/4" round steel about 3 inches long, just to get me in the ball park with the spindle in alignment with the bottom datum of the headstock (parallelism to the bed)

tapered roller bearing housings are installed and ready for next week.

No pictures because it is just a block of steel... but I also got the headstock riser block all nice and ground on the mating surfaces. Monday the holes go in. Might get to it this weekend, we will see.

You might be wondering why I am not really trying to get the parallelism of the spindle perfectly. Guess you'll have to come back in a couple of days.

Happy memorial day weekend to everyone following. May we toast to those who left for war and never came back, and to those who came back, but never left the war.

I have purchased one of these Sewing machine servo motor setups from Amazon
    https://www.amazon.com/Mophorn-CS100...0GGWA5SZ2VCV0W
Does anyone have any info on how to wire this back into mach 3 it has a 0-5v input for the petal, how can I use the 0-10v with it? I know I can just restrict the voltage in mach, but I'd rather have the full 10v because I would think that it would give me more range. It has an option for a synchronizer, I dunno how to use the thing to tie back to my board. is the encoder built in to the motor?

Here is the journey to where I am right now

A family friend tacked and welded the bed extension together for me.

This is the first cut of the weldment. Cut on a Milwalkee #2 horizontal mill. this is the side that gets bolted to the lathe with 4 1/4-20 screws.

Such a small part on such a large machine...

This is the lathe bed roughed in. Next was to attached the extension and cut the whole thing flat again.

I have access to a surface grinder.... so why not?

Linear guides are mounted to the carriage. I still need to set the cross slide perpendicular to the bed rails. To be done once I get the angle block I'm truing up at work. I would like to see it within .001 over the 5" of travel I have.

Testing to see if the spindle is parallel to the bed.... now I have to check it against the rails and carriage.

Good work but do you have any more work on it since?

How is the life without the tail stock?

I regret to inform you that there has not been any movement on this in a lot longer than a hot minute. I am suffering from limited time in the shop and the old cnc mill of mine was acting up and screwed up multiple times with the x and y aixs just cutting out at weird times for absolutely no reason. So, I did what every other responsible home built cnc owner does... upgraded to a Tormach 1100 pcnc. Man does the 100-5000 rpm help, as does the m03, mo4, m05, m08, and the m09 ****ing rock.... I had manual controls for all of that before, and it was rough.

That said... I did actually get my hands on some nasty bldc motors that will work great for the spindle motor and I picked up some encoders too. So that is pretty cool.

I am also redesigning my tool turret to go from a ratchet and pawl system to a hearth ring and a pneumatic piston with oilite bearings and a stepper to index with bellville springs to keep it all together and tight against the ring.

    Sorry guys!
