Default Clough42 ELS for my HF 8x12

Clough42 on YouTube is doing a series on developing an electronic leadscrew for his lathe. I am following the series and implementing his ELS on my Harbor Freight 8x12 lathe. This is my build so far.

I have it all working on a breadboard. I just need to get the PSU and all of the electronics in enclosures and mounted. Once I'm done with that I have some features of my own that I want to add.

Check out his video series. Very complete and well presented. Go see James @

Slowly moving along while I wait for boards to be available from Clough42. I made some temporary changes to the software to activate the power button and make it control a solid state relay that turns on the 48 volt PSU for the stepper. I also got my display case done except for engraving the labels. The buttons are machined from Delrin. It's hard to get good pictures of parts that are so shiny. I used the Tormach Super Fly to face the display. That thing leave an awesome finish.

How did your ELS project turn out? I have the same lathe and would love to install an ELS and eliminate the need for change gears.

I know it's old but I just saw this. I got it working. I modified the software so that the power button turns the power to the stepper motor power supply on/off. The software still needs work. I know James has so plans for some safety features and being able to store the settings. I thought I would just wait for him to get back to that. If I get to the point where I am looking for something to do maybe I will have a whack at it. I have used it to thread but most often I use it as a power feed to get a good finish.
