Off topic - what is your green lathe in the back? It looks like a SB 10 inch or something.

that is a Rockwell 9"x 36. I have found VERY little information on it, but from what I can tell it's essentially Rockwell's version of a Logan 200. That said I love it. it's a tank for it's size and even has power feed on the cross slide. If it only had a gearbox it would be perfect....

Thanks for the info, it looks stout and in great shape. I'm enjoying this thread!

if you're super interested it's model number 74tlc-2130

so tonight was full of disappointment...not only did i find out that my post needs lots of work still, but i found out that mach3 does not support having front and rear oriented tools at the same time. So there goes setting up gang tooling...all roads lead to a turret!

    Or to Linuxcnc!

nah, if i switch controllers itll likely be kflop/dynamotion so i can actually use my encoders for position feedback.

LinuxCNC works well with encoder input in many forms.

    Mach3 is hopeless for lathes.

are you using that function currently for a position feedback loop? I'm not against switching to linux, but if I do i'd like to set up a dedicated PC to run it which is my real hesitation.

I'm setting mine up with a spindle encoder (100PPR quadrature + index) and two MPG handwheel encoders, But I haven't got it running yet, still working on the cast iron. I'm also looking forward to pippin88's answer

I followed your lead on this one, have the bed in my mill right now cutting a rail abutment and a few other features.

Hahaha, yeah that belt has been like that for about 4 years. When it finally gives up I do have a spare ready to go, but it's a pita to replace, so for now I'm going to keep it.

Got the shaft done today. It never fails to be very gratifying to single point threads.
    HF 8x14 linear rail conversion....and maybe more...-20200419_105131-jpg

There was about a .0015 interference between the shaft and the ratchet.
    HF 8x14 linear rail conversion....and maybe more...-20200419_110952-jpg

A little heat and it fits right together.

A little weld for good measure and it's finished.

Looking good! Are you planning to release the turret prints? I'd be willing to pay to avoid doing the design work....

I’m interested in the turret files too if you are will to share. Could you post them on the forum? If not I can just pm you my email.

I got the models, this is an impressive design. I'll look at it more closely tomorrow at work, but at least at first glance, I think it will be a perfect fit for my lathe!

weekend update...got most of the components machined. still need to make the actual ratchet arms and the cam clamp that secure the tools but other than that it's all fabricated.

Still waiting for the stepper motor to show up and i had to re-order the rear bearing. It's a taper bearing and the rollers don't rotate inside the cage. I've never seen a failure like that in a bearing before, i assume it's just defective.
