Question New here and i have a qustion about this sherline

    Hello,
New here I have really enjoyed reading the posts on this form.
    I have a question,
Recently bought a sherline lathe and mill and would like to know if anyone here knows anything
    About the control box?
And are these steppers or servos?
and is this set up ready to run?
    Attached are pictures

    Thanks all

Those are stepper motors. You might want to open up the box to see what each of the db25 connectors go to. If you can find documentation somewhere, you should be able to configure it to run on a pc control.

You still need a computer in the system. Sherline uses a linux-based control software which is free to download from linuxcnc.org. You should be able to get the required setup files from Sherline. Here's a document that explains how the software works: MINI GUI

Of course, if you've only got one control box for both machines, you'll need to switch it over every time you want to switch from the lathe to the mill and back. Be sure to turn everything off and let the capacitors drain before disconnecting and reconnecting the motors.
