Default hOW TO SET UP Z heights on an SYNTEC 60W-E

    Hello,

I am trying to make sense of the heights and set up a best practice moving forward.

I have made a drawing to better illustrate my understanding.

    First question:
Is it better to set the zero Z height to the top of the bed table or the top of the stock piece?
-I prefer the bed option, as you dont have to readjust the height via G54 for different stocks. One drawback is that I run the risk of smashing down into the bed, if not set up properly in the CAM. Any feedback here?

    Second question:
How do I set up the heights on the controller? Is my understanding correct?
Where can I input delta Z? Or should I just change G54? Id prefer to leave G54 for the height of the spoilboard.

    Thanks,
    Peter

Setting Z to top of material is more common. Some who have an ATC spindle use top of spoil board and they populate the cnc control for all tool lengths
