I'm considering building a cheap machine for cutting 1mm (.040) solid polystyrene plastic sheet. I would use adhesive to hold the plastic to the wasteboard.

I'm looking at a generic 500w/ ~0.6HP spindle, running an 1/8" bit (or less).

This video ( ) shows .090 being cut at 500ipm, with a 13HP motor.

Using crude math- my machine would be 4.6% the strength of 13HP, which means it could achieve 23ipm on .090, or 52ipm on .040

Does this track? Can I expect approximately 52ipm with such a setup?
