Ngineer, and you expect me to show my humble falling apart place of work after seeing such a dream-like workshop?
What's that first picture of? Looks like a fish drying rack to me. :-)Originally Posted by EBC
Arrr, that makes sense then.....
Using a bunch of pipe clamps is always really fiddly to maintain square. There's always a better way to do something.
Really very good pictures shared in this forum.I like all these pics.

I like it that you will have water in the shop, but wouldnt it save a lot of pipe if you just decided where the sink will be ahead of time?
Here's my mountain retreat, looks a lot like your new shop. Russ
Wowser....
I sooo need a new shed!
I'm in the process of replacing junk with tools, when I'm finished I'll post some pictures, but I could fit my whole workshop in the broom cupboard I think...
My shed already appears in my last few youtube videos so it's not completely a mystery.
I do wonder how many containers are going to end up being appropriated for farm storage as they wash up along the east cape, but they'd be an awkward shape for a workshop unless you got a couple side by side and cut the joining sides out I'd think.
My biggest issue with the shed is now what the EQC folks will do post earthquake, which means I can't do anything while I wait for them to sort that out.
Cheers, Chris H.
Do you live in Ch Ch, if so did you sustain damage?
Hi...
We live south of the city on rural property.
The 7.1 in September 2010 is what did the damage to our place, but it's nothing compared to some places in the eastern suburbs and CBD. It's just annoying putting things on hold for over a year now waiting to find out the who what when of repairs, or not.
I work about 7k's from the epicenter of the two most destructive aftershocks (Feb 22nd and June 13th) and all I can really say is that earthquakes are not fun and I will never work or live in a masonry building.
Anyway, where's your Workshop photos?
Wow, you were right in the center of the earthquake.
I was in Auckland at the time at the airport leaving to come back home to Canada.
I will get a shot of my workshop shortly.
Cheers
John
On the big chilean earthquake of last year my workshop seemed to hold fine even when it's really old (to the point you'll think I could fall apart without an earthquake). The controller PC fell from it's table but the machine didn't move. At home a few things suffered ugly falls but somehow all of them survived (included an lcd screen which split an oregon pine board on its way down). But, a couple of months later, seconds after I arrived, a ceiling shelf decided it couldn't take any more and broke, dropping a lot of stuff directly on top of an old unused machine build, and just a few feet from my head! It was a close call.
Still, regarding the earthquake itself I was quite lucky compared to some people :
