Default Ideas for a punch and die assembly

    Hi guys,

I've been introduced with a new problem, and I want to ask If anyone had a similar one. I have to design a punch and die assembly for a sheet metal part that has some sort of foam fixated on it. Is that foam glued before the punch or is it put on by a separate tool/assembly. Also, what is the offset between the punch and the die in this situation. Do I go just by the thickness of the sheet metal, or the sheet metal with the foam, or something in between. I'll provide a picture of the part here.

Thanks in advance Ideas for a punch and die assembly-whatsapp-image-2020-09-13-10-35-aIdeas for a punch and die assembly-whatsapp-image-2020-09-13-10-35-aIdeas for a punch and die assembly-whatsapp-image-2020-09-13-10-35-a

Buy a stock punch press. Look up Roper-Whitney for examples.
Put the metal part down against the metal die and bring the punch down to the part, and press.

    Cheers

    Hi RCaffin,

To be honest, I don't think you understood quite well what my problem is.

    With all do respect.

Sorry, maybe I didn't put it correctly. I've worked with whole assemblies of making obliques like this from sheet metal. But I don't know does the foam go before or after making the oblique? And what should be the offset in between the male and female part of the oblique if it's done with the foam?

I think we have a translation problem here. I do not understand what you mean. Sorry.

    Cheers
