    Thanks Nastek,

    I've been doing more looking into this and I think it's what I will do. Up until now I haven't really liked my options with the old technology drives.

    Now, the old drive was setup to use regenerative braking. Will I need to purchase this as an option with the Toshiba drive as well?

    Also, what about spindle rpm feedback? To the best of my understanding the VFS11 series does not have this in it's basic form. Am I correct on this? If so is it possible to add this as an option? Maybe it's not really needed, but I would feel more comfortable having this, depending on price of course.

    Happy New Year!

    Thanks,
    Nate

    Hi Nate, happy new year for you
    Tired after vacation, but the best think if I can share my experience for the people around the world.
    I never use the feedback, and if you can set the best parameter for the performance, the spindle speed will drop 5-10 rpm when the tool touch the workpiece, and going to the normally again.
    Don't worry for the threading, because the controller read from speed encoder.
    Ps. You must use braking resistor for Dec.

    I've looked over my existing drive boards and can't see anything obviously wrong. After putting in the parameters and checking over the board I am in a position to replace the drive with the Toshiba. Now i would like your help in determining which one would be best. I have shopped around and found these people to be the best price from what I can tell:

    S11 Variable Frequency Drive (240V, 3 Phase)

    Nastek, is this the type of drive you used in the Mazaks? Also is the VFS11-2075PM-WN 240V/3 Phase, 10HP the 7.5Kw, and the VFS11-2110PM-WN 240V/3 Phase, 15HP the 11Kw? I'd like to use the 11Kw like you recommended but not sure which one is the 11Kw.

    Thanks,

    Hi benjamin,
    Sorry for late reply,
    VFS11-2110PM-WN 240V/3 is good enough.

    Nastek, I placed the order today. It was a total of $992.15. Once I get it installed with some new Honda connectors I am sure I will need some assistance with the parameters. Hopefully you can help Thanks for all your suggestions and help. I couldn't have done it without you.

    don't forget, you must buy braking resistor to get fast stop.

    Can I use it without a braking resistor? I don't require it to stop fast as I am making very simple parts. Is it something I can buy later? Will it harm the drive to run it without a braking resistor?

    Up to you, but some processing part need fast stop.
    or you can try to use original Braking resistor ( if the resistance above 12 ohm ).
    Braking resistor only use for stop the motor by DC injection, no problem, you can use without it.

    Yes I do make battery trays. I would be glad to make you any one you want, free of charge, including shipping to anywhere in the world for your help in getting the Mazak back alive. I'd even be glad to make you a custom tray for free.

    If I buy a braking resistor, which size do you recommend?

    PS - Did you see our website Optima Battery Trays or our eBay store Billet Battery Trays?

    hahaha, very interesting.
    for the resistor, you can use 10 ohm/660 watt.
    or you can use the existing resistor if it present.
    Ps. thanks for the offer, I'll be delighted

    Sounds good. I'll use the dynamic braking resistor from the old drive. I looked them up and they are quite expensive to buy new. The new drive should be here by early next week. Any suggestions on where to sell the old drive? I'd like to sell the old drive to help with the purchase price of the new drive.

    Does anyone have the electrical diagram that shows what the pins are on the Honda connectors to the Spindle Drive on the Mazak QT10? I bought the opposite gender Honda connectors for CON1, CON2, and CON3 so that I wouldn't have to cut any wiring when hooking up the new Toshiba drive but I don't know which pins are what.

    The FRSX manual is on the MEAU site, but the details leaves alot to be desired.
    Not sure if it helps?

    Do not use CON 2/3. Use Con 1 pin 11-12 for Alarm Detector.
    FRSX (ARST1+ARST2) Connect to Toshiba (CC+RES) for reset the alarm.
    please read the first page of this thread.

    I am about to power it on. So far what I have done is connect the pins as follows. I am not sure if pins 14, 11, 12, 19, and 20 are correct though. Can someone verify this?

    CON1 Pins --> Toshiba S11 Pins
    30 (SES) --> GND
    31 (SE1) --> VIA
    32 (SE2) --> CC
    45 (SRN) --> F Forward
    46 (SRI) --> R Reverse
    14 (OS) --> CC
    11 (FA) --> FLA
    12 (FC) --> FLC
    19 (ARST1) --> RES
    20 (ARST2) --> CC

    Does that seem correct?

    Thanks again, I can't believe this thing is finally going to be up and running!

    All powered up...now what? I assume there are some settings that need to be adjusted in the Toshiba drive. After powering the machine on, the same error and alarm message comes up. The Toshiba drive appears to be powered on OK though. What is the next step? See the pictures of how the install went.
