Default How to choose a company to do metal polishing?

I've been tasked with trying to find a business to polish bicycle hubs made of aluminum (6061). I know virtually nothing about this process so i am at a loss as to how to assess the various companies offering polishing and buffing - other than on price. Any advice on what to ask or look for so I can find a company that can provide a shiny, mirror-like finish? Is it reasonable to ask for a sample?

Ideally I'd like to find someone in the Denver metro area.
    TIA,
    Sarah

    Sarah,

Polishing those aluminum hubs should be no problem. It is not unreasonable to ask for samples. Nor is it unreasonable to ask for some names of other local companies that they do work for. That's always a benefit of doing business locally. If they don't have samples, they would certainly have work in progress that you could visualy inspect. Ask what their turn-around time would be based on the number of units to be polished. Also, inquire about getting just one or two pieces done so that you can visually inspect them and be assured that you're getting the desired finish. There seem to be a few good polishing shops right in the Denver area. Google will provide a few. As for pricing, check with 3 shops and compare. Turn around times, pricing, and overall feel for the company when you initially contact them will lead you to the right shop. You don't really need to concern yourself much about the process. It's the QUALITY finished product that's important.

    best of luck.

Yes, it's definitely reasonable to ask for a sample. This will give you a firsthand look at their quality of work and the level of finish they can achieve. You can clearly communicate your expectations regarding the desired finish and any specific requirements, I think they wouldn't mind at all if you ask nicely.
