You can import a DXF into Mastercam. You need to check your version of MasterCam and which version of AutoCad DXF is compatible.

I am trying to figure out how to read this file (DXF) when I bring it into mastercam for some reason I try to click on certain points and it will not let me choose them
is there a process I have to go through in order for mastercam to read it
also is there a way to check to make sure all entities are connected (kind of like purging the part)
hopefully I mad some kind of sence
thank you

Do any entities get imported ?
.... yes... but not selectable.. check your mask settings.
.... no ... DXF source has exported as a newer version that your Mastercam cannot read
.. try exporting source DXF at a earlier release.....
or... import into a later version of Mcam...say Mastercam2018
as for entities being connected.... you mean "chained" ?
what software is your source ?
what are the features being exported ? ie polylines, text, lines/arc etc.
some features export badly ie polylines import as small lines in the R12 translator option. Fonts and vector artwork have their own issues.
thank you for the replies
so I am running mastercam 2018
and yes for entities; some of them are not chained al the way so it will not let me do a toolpath
some of the features that I am importing are fonts and some are just pockets but for some reason they are not chained all the way when I am importing a dxf file into mastercam.
were do I go to check the mask settings?
also I never use the R12 translator option , how and in what circumstance do use that option.
thank you once again jut trying to figure this out
ok...Mcam2018 should handle latest versions of most DXF translators.
Font text is classed as a "drafting entity" ... it needs to be converted to it's basic items (lines, arcs and splines)
... use the "Break into Lines" r/h side of the drafting tab
note.. some features of curved text will be splines .. any probs... try converting to arcs ( wireframe > trim > Break many pieces ... set create curves.. set a tolerance(play with this).. set keep ( switch to delete after checking diffs...BEFORE accepting the new geom.).... you may get chaining probs using this...
to find breaks in a chain.. use analyse chain or contour
ps
goem that won't chain could be because of duplicate entities or maybe a branch point... read the tip that appears onscreen
hope this solves your probs...
please bare with me this thing can be frustrating at times
thank you again
so I got this slot that is 4 inches long with a 1 inch radius on each end
when I hit the shift key to see if it chained all the way it stops at the beginning of one of the radius.
so I know it is not connected all the way,
so I try to do the joint entities and it tells me that selected entities cannot be joined.
how can I join them?
thank you
using the shift+ left click to select chained geom is a rough method to analyse probs...
... check for duplicates
... check for a 3D error..analyse distance b/w endpoints.
... check if not a spline.. trim function will not extend & trim a spline in the 1 action.. it has to be extended to past the intersection before being trimmed.
you may need to redraw part of it
