Default BEST LUBRICANT FOR SCREW DRIVE

Howdy . . . . . .Can someone tell me the "BEST" lubricant to use on a screw drive? Also how many hours of use between cleaning and re-lubricating?

    Never seen anything in writing.

    Thanks in advance

    Sorry . . . . . I don't know. It's a MultiCam 22 Plus CNC router.

What Gerry means is it a ballscrew, Acme thread or something else?

    They are ball screws.

We use Kluber GL261, and our automatic lubrication greases them every 3 hours of run time.

We also have a ballscrew with a spinning nut, that get's greased once/week.

I've got a 6040 Chinese CNC and probably have Acme screws. Can this Kluber GL261 be used for these also? What's so special about Kluber GL261 that made you chose it? I don't think my machine has ever been greased, I presume it's a necessity?

It's the recommended grease by the manufacturer of the machine. We even buy it from them.

I use pneumatic tool oil on the acme screws on my homebuilt machine.

I'm starting to think my screws are ball screw type.

I'll look into Kluber, I'm surprised you use them, they don't look to be widely used in the US. In Australia they are only in Syd.

    Yes, those are ballscrews.
We have an Italian machine, and it's what they sell and recommend.
Be aware that Kluber grease is very expensive.
Mobil EP1 is a much cheaper alternative.

Looks like the expensive option is cheapest. Klube sell small quantities of their stuff, I'm not able to find small quantities of EP1, sold in barrels only.

What about for linear rails, I'm reading oils should be used for these.

We use the same grease for our linear bearings and ballscrews.

White lithium grease I think is the best, especially in a convenient aerosol can. It's fortified, durable, non-staining, provides superior friction reduction between comparable or different materials than other lubricants. Will not run, clean off, or freeze and does not gum up or cake on used surfaces. A good choice for use on all moving components found on domestic, commercial and commercial garage doorways, gates and electrical operators, including, rollers, hinges, bearings, springs, cables, roller string, locks, latches, etc.
