Guides for naming part features?
I program/ run various machines and regularly find myself at a loss for words as to what specifically to call a certain part features. Like, is this a "tang" or maybe a "wing", I could call it the "overhang" or the "extrusion". My programs get ran by other people so being able to clearly describe orientation/position of oddly shaped objects is fairly important and I haven't seen any good guides that teach anyone how to properly name features.

Just make sure you are consistent and document why a feature is named what it is.

Re: Guides for naming part features?
Each job may be very different to the last one... but as Warrenb says be consistent.
I try to identify each operation by the feature and what I'm doing to that feature ie ROUGH OUTER PROFILE-XX DEEP...ROUGH TO 1ST STEP... FACE L/H SIDE... SPOTDRILL M8 HOLES.
if you were doing a complicated shape.... you might put labels on a print for certain features and the use the labels to identify the different operations... but still add info to aid the operators
... this aids you as well when debugging little errors ( we all are susceptible to the bugs )
