Removing aluminium aluminum from carbide tools
Searching through the "old tools" box today I found some single flute solid carbide tools that had been used to cut 1000 series ally sheet on a router. They looked sharp, but had big wedges of ally welded into the flutes. No way the ally was moving, but I had a brainwave and dropped them into some caustic soda solution. 3 hours later they looked like new, and the carbide doesn't seem to have been affected at all. These were uncoated cutters - the caustic soda might affect coatings, so be cautious.
