(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)
Of everything I've purchased to get my cnc router up & running I think Mach 3 was one of the least expensive items I've had to buy & I didn't think it was expensive for what it does.
Mach3 is not and will never be developed any further.... Consider alternatives at least such as uccnc which cannot be beat on cost

Note.... You will need a UC motion controller as uccnc will not work on any other motion controller... And you can always flip back to mach3 or mach4 with the UC motion controllers no problem
It's an option to at least consider to have that flexibility and use something that is actively being developed
If you want a free controller software there is always linuxcnc. If you don't have a machine that needs Uber high step rates you can also look at grbl, which runs on an Arduino uno. There are many interfaces for it on many different platforms.
I bought Mach3 a few years back when there was not much else that could compare to it. I think it's still worth buying today if it does what you need. It is certainly one of the cheapest parts of a CNC machine, as Gary-Wiant said.
Hi , You can use the demo version as long as you like , but limited to how much G code you can use. Good to test your machine to make sure all is ok with mach3 before you purchase.
