Default Reproducing layered locks of hair ?

Could this marble bust, a faithful hand made recreation by sculptor Joseph Wilton (c1800s), be reproduced in via CNC.

Naturally I am not referring to the immediate exterior, but the detailing in the locks of hair, which were obviously layered by the original artisan.

It's hard to tell from the photo how undercut those locks are, but a good 6-axis CNC stone carving machine could get most of the way there, given the right tooling and software. A more difficult problem would be getting a good enough scan of those hidden areas, since scanners have problems with things like that. Most likely the scan would need extensive manual patching and reworking to finish out the insides of those hollows.

    Thanks for the info.

I would imagine that the design would be done from scratch, on computer anyway. I suspect that there are all manner of alerts whenever something too impossible is on the design board ?

Listen for screams of anguish emanating from the art department...

This guy does some great carvings on his 5axis machine, would do this without too much trouble
