    Default Mach4 jog question

Mach 4 hobby on cobbled together learners setup.
To jog my spindle I have to click on the jog tab then use the mouse to click on the appropriate axis button. My arrow keys don't do anything.
When setting up my gantry on Mach3 I could hit the tab key the move the spindle with the arrow keys and would like something similar in Mach4.
Then while watching the university of youtube, I saw an operator jogging Mach4 with the arrow key.... what am I missing?
Thanks in advance to all who contrib

    Hi,
yes Mach4 can do the same thing.....but its more involved to set up.

You have to set up the keys you want to use in the Keyboard plugin, and then attach those key inputs to the jog signals of Mach4.

This procedure is very flexible, for instance you can have one set of keys for slow speed touch offs, and another set for high speed traverses,
or maybe use a modifier key like ALT to determine the jog speed. The only drawback is that you have to set it up....and that can be a bit confusing
to start with. Mach3 had this functionality built in....but it could not readily be changed, whereas it can be with Mcah4.

May I suggest posting on the Mach4 Gen Discussion board.

    Hi,
just had another thought....have you <Enabled Keyboard Input>? (on the Jogging tab).

Looks like the keyboard plugin is going to be the answer. On the jog tab I do have a green button that reads "enable keyboard input" or something similar but clicking on it does nothing.
I haven't had time to try the keyboard plugin but wanted to thank you for the answer.
