Hi all, after de planetary gear transmissions, this should be the best option for a high torque axis in a CNC Machine or Robots, But what is the math behind it?
I want at least to design one in solidworks, you know is not enough to go to a 3D Models page, and download it, what really matters, is to make your owns at least in a CAD software,
who knows maybe someone will print it or machine it.
If you can help me find or understand the math behind, it would be cool.
Re: Strain wave gear principle - Harmonic Drive AG
Hi Brian - A harmonic drive as per the video has a deforming ring gear. This is hard to model in CAD as you can't model the travelling deformation only an instance of it in time. Designing one requires a good understanding of fatigue as the components not only have the contact forces to deal with at the teeth but superimposed on this is the flexure stress. There are heaps of videos explaining harmonic drives. flex drives and strain wave drives in operation. Cheers Peter s
