Trying to build my own CNC Laser cutter
Hi everyone,
I'm currently designing my own laser cutter, for hobby purposes. I already have the design of the CNC made, but I have some questions about the laser cutting part. I thought about using the CO2 Laser tube, but I do like how the laser module is more compact and requires a lot less parts to operate it (no coolant reservoir, no reflectors needed, etc). I don't have as much experience with the laser module tho, so what do I need to be mindful of should I use it? Also, how powerful would I need to cut, say, brass or copper sheets up to 2mm thick?
Thanks in advance.

CO2 lasers can not cut metals. Only organic materials and plastics. Things that will burn or melt.
I’d recommend doing more research before you set on a direction.

That's not accurate. CO2 lasers can cut metal but they don't do as well as fiber and the operational cost is more.
I have a friend that has one of these but is a 150 watt and he cuts 18 gauge everyday. It also has a weak side further away from the laser tube so that side usually doesn't cut as well.
