Default Bobcam post for K40 laser cutter

Over the weekend I installed the Scorchworks K40 Whisperer control programme on my cheap and nasty Chinese K40 laser cutter, wow what a revelation the K40 Whisperer programme is!!

One of the nice things with the Whisperer control is that it can read G codes, there is a short tutorial video that Scorchworks put on you tube and within that video the basic G codes used can be seen.

I though I would tweak a Bobcad post to churn out G code for the K40 and that has been very successful.

The post is working on V30 and obviously use with caution but it has worked well so far, it is attached if any one wants to use it.

    Regards

    Barrie

    Sweet. Thanks for that contribution!
Not that I use Bobcad but you gave me a good idea there. I'll see if I can replicate this idea for the CAM I use here.
I do use Scorchworks' python though, pretty cool kit

Do you mind posting a sample GCODE output of what you are getting out of Bobcad/post? I'll try to use yours as a guide.
Linear & arc (e.g. 1 square 1 hole), spindle on/off, etc. If you can, that'd be cool

Yes here is a sample code, not very demanding.

    ( PROGRAM NUMBER: 0100 )
    ( PROGRAM NAME: BOBCAD3.TAP )
    ( POST: FLASH LASER K40 )
    ( DATE: SUN. 09/29/2019 ,TIME: 10:35PM )
    (Machine Setup - 1-Feature 2 Axis-Profile Rough)

    G90 (setting absolute coordinates)
G17 (setting up for arcs in the X,Y plane)
    G21 (metric mode)
    S1 (arms the laser tube)
    G00 X4.54 Y-14.6
    G17 G03 X2.66 Y-14.6 Z-4. I-.94 J0. F750.
    G03 X4.54 Y-14.6 I.94 J0.
    G00 X25.94
    G03 X24.06 Y-14.6 I-.94 J0. F750.
    G03 X25.94 Y-14.6 I.94 J0.
    G00 X47.34
    G03 X45.46 Y-14.6 I-.94 J0. F750.
    G03 X47.34 Y-14.6 I.94 J0.
    G00 X-.06 Y.06
    G01 X50.06 F750.
    Y-50.06
    X-.06
    Y.06
    S0 (disarms laser tube)
    M2 (end of programme)

Scorch has put something in K40 Whisperer that shuts the laser off in rapid movements, so that is neat and essential.

I have asked Scorch for a full set of G codes that K40 Whisperer recognises, if I get this I will post it.

    Regards

    Barrie

    Mecanix

Scorch got back to me and confirmed a few additional G codes.

So here is the full list as I understand it.

    G00
    G01
    G02
    G03
    G17
    G20
    G21
    G90
    G90.1
    G91
    G91.1
    S0 (Laser off)
    S1 (Laser on)
    M2 (Programme end)

I think that is enough to get by with in 2D operations.

    Regards
