    Default Larken 2424

I have tries to make 3D things on my machine.

I got models from Vector Art3D - nice models
I programmed gcode using vectric Machinist software.

    PROBLEM:
It seems that the "Z" axis is not repeating. I do not get a smooth surface. It seems that there is .020 or more varaiation in height

Also, when the machine finishes the cutting path and returns to the beginning to make a clean up pass at 90 degrees from the first pass - the z axis is 1/16 above the pattern.

    SOLUTIONS ?????
    1) I suspect - that maybe the ball screw is damaged ---- What part number would I order and where would I order it from.

    2) I also suspect that I might need to recalibrate the "Z" axis stepper motor -- how would I check it - or do that?

I suspect you may be mad....Aside from that....how is the general accuracy of the machine? Are tool length offsets a problem? is the software programmed correctly? is the post processor correct? Is operator error an issue? Could you post the file you're trying to run?

    Many variables!

Keith - no I am not mad. Typing text often comes out wrong.

I do get frustrated when I have several problems going on at one time.

My apology for appearing to be mad.

You ask a lot of questions - I have confirmed each of them to not be contributing to the problem.

The operator - me - is certainly an issue - but not in the Z axis problem.

I have had Larry helping me trouble shoot this problem via email - and I believe we are real close to nailing down what the problem is.

It is an older machine about 9-10 years old - 4" Z axis - travel.
