Shizuoka

I have a Shizuoka milling machine. It was built in the mid 70's, CNC, variable belt, nmtb 40, knee, 3HP.
Can anyone describe in detail how to change the belt. I presume the spring on the pulley must be compressed and removed, but how?
I'm told that other machines have small screw holes in the spring ring that accommodate spring compression. This machine has no such holes.
