Default Need new Electro Craft motor for Hurco KMB-1M

Y axis motor on the Hurco KMB fried its commutator.

Motor rebuild service estimated to be too much $$$.

Electro Craft part number is 0703-02-089.

These motors are available on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Electro-Cra...oAAOSwhvpdxwcK

Electro Craft part numbers are 0703-02-039 and 0703-02-049. These are probably *very* similar to the 0703-02-089. The question is how *very*?

The good news is the existing motor doesn't have an encoder. The encoder is on the screw for this axis. Don't need to worry about matching the encoder. The Ebay motors have encoders, but they can be removed or simply left unconnected.

Does anybody have a 40 year old secret decoder ring for the Electro Craft part numbers?

Try "Mid-West CNC" in Indianapolis Indiana. They have been great with our old Hurcos.

Mid West CNC has two KMB1M servo motors for sale at $800 each. No help for Ebay part numbers.

I have the old original Electro-craft and also the Reliance Full range catalogues, Reliance took them over.
Non show 0703 motors, both catalogues jump from 0690 to 0721 ?

    Thanks Al_The_Man.

The part number on my motor is 0703-02-089. Each of the three groups of numbers means something.

-I think the 0703 is the frame size.
-Don't know what the 02 is.
-And I suspect the 089 has something to do with the shafts, encoder, or both.

Looking at the current Electro-Craft on line catalog. Trying to extrapolate the third set of numbers. Possibly, the last suffix is common across multiple frame sizes. But no dice with the information Electro-Craft makes public. There are more groups of numbers, and they don't completely describe them.

So, I'm wondering if maybe in the old catalog they provide the "decoder ring" and maybe the last suffix is common across frame sizes. Then maybe I can figure out the differences between the -039, -049, and -089 motors.

Attached is a drawing, dated 1977 for 0703-02-049. Don't know if you have this in your library.

    Thanks in advance.

The one of that physical size is the 0721- versions. The difference is in the max. terminal voltage, all the ones I see of those in both catalogues for those physical dimensions are 60vdc.

    Thanks for looking Al.

Did some more snooping around and found the current Electro Craft catalog for PMDC motors. Extrapolating from the new specs suggest that the last triplet determines the shafts and lead options. Looking at several different motor types, they don't seem to be consistent with what the digits in the triplet mean.

Hopefully, the the [3,4,8] within -039, -049, -089 specify the rear shaft option. In my case, the rear shaft is unused. The middle digit is a don't care.

Since there is no V prefixed group, there must be a single voltage rating. 60V would be about right with what I see on the servo amps.

We've got some -039s inbound from Ebay. I guess we'll find out soon.

It took me awhile however, I believe this might be the drawing you're looking for.

Now that I have my Hurco up and running I just mill around.
