    Default Hurco KM5P

Can a Hurco KM5P be run on a rotary phase converter without problems?
    What should be my concerns?
Thanking you all in advance for your kind help.

Sure, as long as the RPC is rated for the machine HP. I think those have a 5 HP spindle motor, so a 5 or 7.5 HP RPC should do fine. Just make sure you get a RPC rated for CNC duty. They are supposed to have better balance than non rated units. Try not to use the manufactured leg to power up the controls, in most machines this is possible.

    Absolutely !
Ran my KM3 on a 5 HP homemade rotary for years. ( Spindle is 3 HP)
As noted the manufactured Leg must only go to the spindle drive.
Do you have Speed Control ? I do not ! ( so I am not sure above built in VFD's !)
All speed is by manual cranking the head stock crank. that may make a difference.
I also removed the sump coolant pump ( 3 phase) and went to a 120 Volt unit .
After a few years I got tired of the noise and put a VFD on the Spindle and rewired motor contactors .
Main Power switch powers a 5 HP Hitachi VFD as well as the control circuts.
The spindle contactors were disconnected from 220 and drive the VFD inputs for On/Off.
BUT I have a separate control box with a pot for speed and a ON-OFF_Auto Switch and a F/R Switch.
This is incredibly helpful as it allows me to stop the spindle in the middle of a block by hitting 'Hold" and then stopping the spindle with my add-on.
I have print schematic if you are interested.

I run my 5m on a rotary without issue general rule of thumb is 2x the max HP of the machine.
