135 Degree Split Point Drills
Hey Folks,
was looking at ordering these 135 degree split point parabolic drills manufactured by Titex. Was wondering if these need to be spot drilled first and if so what angle spot drill. I can't seem to find any spot drills over 120 degrees.
Thanks,
CM

I assume your talking about carbide drills. Generally the bigger size carbide drills - no - don't bother spot drilling. if your talking about the likes of drills from 1.5mm down, i would spot drill yea. WNT have an 142 degree carbide spot drill in their catalog. www.wnt.com. Well thats my opinion anyway.

Thanks Marcutous. The smallest one I'm using is a 1/16" (about 1.59mm.) I am expecting the drills today or tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.

I use Titex drills every day and do not spot any unless under 1/16

If you have any issues or concerns with location or drift on longer drills, try a 2D deep pilot hole with a carbide screw machine length drill of the same point angle.
Again this would only be needed with small diameter drills and/or jobber and longer length drills.
