Rockwell? (The steels hardness). #15 drill (.180) then a .1875 reamer? I'm guessing here, the need for carbide would suck. Need a bit more info.
Hello all, I'm new here and come for some help. I am trying to figure out the correct way on how to drill, ream, and install a dowel pin into a forged steel automobile crankshaft. The dowel pin is 3/16" O.D. Dowel Pins | MSCDirect.com
Does anyone know which would be the proper size drill bit and reamer I would need to do this? Also, what drill bit material would i need to be able to drill into forged steel? Note: I only have to go in a tad less than a half of inch into the forged crank. Thanks in advance

there is no information out there which states the rockwell of the crankshaft. i did find another thread with someone else doing the same thing, he even links which drill bit and reamer he used. heres the link: pinning the crank
i see the guy in that thread used 11/64" bit which is smaller than a #15 drill bit. should i get a #15 brill bit instead? i would assume it would be easier on the reamer.
let me know if thats fine or if there is a better way to do this. thanks
