Default Deep hole drilling on a HAAS HMC

I'm quoting on some new work and one of the operations is deep hole drilling.
I can't fit it into my VF2 so I was looking at buying a HAAS HMC of some sort to do the job.
    Perhaps an EC-400 or HS-1...
Just wondering if anyone else has done such a thing...

    Thanks, Timothy

Like with a gun drill? Done it many times.

Gravity my boy, its not just a good idea. Its the law.

Seriously, Gun drilling in a horizontal is affected by gravity. Just like on a gun drilling machine. Your exit hole will be lower than your entrance.

You will only need a good start hole. DME says you need a flat bottom hole but I have got by without it. You also need high-er pressure CTS. Again I have gotten by with 150 ~ 300psi.

    It's a 1.375" hole 13" deep. With a flat bottom.
I would need a huge VMC to fit that in so I was thinking HMC.
Make sure the tool clears the work and let the back end stick out a bit.
Sorta hoping a 1.37" rough drill would be strong enough not to deflect too much...
I can add high pressure coolant to the machine if it doesn't come with it.

    Thanks, Timothy
