    Default VF-2 Questions

We recently picked up a old '92 VF2 for our shop. We only had the VF-7, but as we got more work, and "smaller" work, we decided to get something a little smaller. The VF-2 was in great condition, and recently had a new spindle put on.

I have 2 questions regarding it:

    1) How to increase the amount of memory.

    2) Who sells LONG cables to attach our computer to the machine?

    Thanks in advance!

(quick background, this is my dad's shop, and I have been working here for a little while, so I don't know a FULL amount, but i'm slowly learning.)

Contact HAAS for memory upgrades. You may be able to get 'off-brand' expansion cards for considerably cheaper, but I don't know about those.

You can make your own cables. Just buy some RS232 cabling and attatch the 9 and/or 25 pin connectors. The manual has the wiring diagram.

Keep in mind, the longer the cable to the machine, the more chance for trasmit errors and interfearance. A slowdown in trasnfer rate will help, as will properly shielded cables.

How are you trasnferring files to the VF7?

Sounds good, I'll fire them off a email.

Do you know where I can buy some cable? We bought some from radio shack, but it isin't long enough to properly hide away, and keep out of foot traffic.

Gotcha. The cable we have now is sheilded and works good, we need just about another 10-15' longer.

The VF7 is much newer, '99 I believe. It has a disk drive that we use.

hey how about an older machine. I have a 1996 machine and they want 3800.00 for a memory upgrade! for a measly 256k. $h!T

has anyone every looked at the memory board. the factory says the memory is solder to the processor??? I bet they mean the proccessor board.

I wouldn't mind doing it myself but would like some input befor tearing into machine just to find Out it aint going to work.

    thanks
