Need help for a project

Hi everyone, I am currently doing a project that requires a 2 axes motor stage able to place a device on a large plane (for instance 1m*1m). I am trying to find the easier way to do this, and I have found that cnc machines are really close to this, except for the laser/drilling etc.. device that is built in. Do you think I could easily get rid of this and use just the motor stage, and put my own device instead ? is it possible to "hack" the motor control so that it fits my pupose ? If you have any thoughts or any suggestions on how to realise this, I would be reallly happy to read you.

Ok, thanks for the answer. I guess you mean that i won't be able to reach better accuracy then the one of the cnc machine.
