    Default Commissioned CNC Builders/DIY

    Hello,

Is anyone aware of an individual or company who will build custom CNC mills? I've found a few online, but they seem to only build massive $100k+ mills. I'm looking for something better than a Tormach but not as expensive as a full on HAAS/Brother etc.

The parts I'm looking to make are small, between 2 and 60mm, that require a higher level of precision and repeatability ~ .01mm. Part material will be in brass, aluminum, and steel/stainless.

    Thanks for your help.

How much time do you have ?
    Work envelope ?
Desired resolution and surface finish ?

    Cost range..

A tiny 100 mm envelope cnc mill will cost about 7000€ in metal, 12.000 with better screws and slides.
    Add controler of choice.

    Fwiw...
My very large industrial VMC cost about 100k, and took over 15k hours overall, including a lathe + industrial cnc
    refits and learning to machine.

Though I recognize a VMC or equivalent is tremendously better, I'm not at the stage where $100k is a viable option yet.

Time? There's no specific time, but 2 or 3 months would be ideal.

    Work Envelope? X: 305mm Y:305mm Z: 305mm (will need additional room for a vise)

Resolution: 1 micron, with surface finish as best as possible. What are you looking for here an RA value? Mirror like would be awesome. I'd imagine vibrations would be paramount. Perhaps epoxy granite could be used to help dampen.

A custom built machine would easily cost 5-10x that of a comparable production model.

Hi Kaymteo - Your in the realm of commercial machines there. Do some more research. 1 micron is a stretch... mirror finishes are usually post machining Peter

Thanks, Peter. I said mirror-like since that is the end goal. I know it wouldn't be achievable on the machine. Additionally, the 1 micron would be for the softer materials such as brass.
