    Default CNC Maintenance

I have a question about power outages and broken tooling. We have an old Quick Mill with Siemens drives and IBH controls, that every time we take a lighnting hit drops the z axis and brakes the drill. What do I need to know to properly diagnose the problem?

I am assuming when you say it drops the Z that the whole axis falls into the work piece?
Most machines in this situation install a Z axis brake of some kind that comes on when servo power is on.
This is often anything from a magnetic brake on a rotating shaft or motor to a Hydraulic operated solenoid etc.
