Default What is the best way to duplicate a physical object. Laser scanner, or probe digitize

Ok I am planning on working on some small rather detailed objects, ranging in size from the size of a coffee cup to the size of a paper towel roll.

The detail on these objects are rather detailed as I said, usually machined animals, model RR items like trees... So what I am wondering is what is the best way to duplicate the fine resolution of these objects?

I have been told that a laser scanner/ digitizer is the fastest but the detail is not that great on 3d.
I have been told that a probe digitizer (like centroid) gives the most accurate reproduction of detail but this takes a long time.

What have been your experiences is there anything that is quick but has very good detail?

    Let me know

    Thanks

If the parts are really small, a laser might be better, because the probe tip would need to be much smaller than the smallest details.
But, a really good laser scanner can be extremely expensive.

Also keep in mind that resulting scanned data may need a lot of cleanup. I'd expect a fairly long learning curve to get really good at 3D scanning, and for best results, it will be expensive.

You could also use a scanning service like this.
