These old 297/298 are not very good compared to what you can get these days. (Drv8825, TB6600 etc). Old half/full step tech from the 80's. I used to build these many years ago.

Mach3 outputs step/direction signals from a computer parallel port. Within the mach3 port config screen, you can choose which parallel port output pin is step and direction. On the l297 chip, the clock is step input and the cw/ccw is direction.

thank you sir for your answer
so i only have to connect the clock as step input and the cw/ccw as direction from L297 to the Mach3 interface board ? then in the Mach3 software i set the appropriate pins . right ?

Yes but there is also other setup configuration to make mach3 to work. You have to read the manual for that info.

This is an incomplete diagram. You have many signals floating freely unconnected. Mach3 can give you CLOCK (Step pulses) ENABLE pulses and CW / CCW (Direction) pulses. The rest you have to connect somewhere else, typically a micro controller of some sort.

I suggest you buy a motor driver which is made for controlling steppers in CNC or similar application. What you are showing here is not the optimum solution, in fact, I'd say it is a pretty bad solution in my opinion.

You don't really need mcu. This is a more complete description and schematic

Stepper Motor Driver 1.2 - RepRapWiki

Like I said, it's old and not very good compared to stepper drivers you can buy today. Not worth the time to build but if the OP wants to learn how to drive a stepper the hard way and learn a bit about electronics. I'm not one to stop him. That's how we all started when we were younger.

thanks for your answers guys , the driver works , but i have some problems with configuring the stepper motor , does any body know the configuration of NEMA17 in mach3 ?
i have tried alot but i still can't figure it out
