Re: colchester tornado 200
Hi
I realise this is an old post but I have a noisy Z axis in my Tornado 200, and suspect the chuck end bearings of the Z axis, the lathe is still holding good tolerances but very noisy in rapid speed.
Why did you have to replace the bearing, what problems did you have?
If you did replace the bearing/s how did you end up doing it?
Best Regards

Re: colchester tornado 200
There is only a thrust bearing on the Z axis and that is at the chuck end
Normally this is the first thing to go as the ball screw and rais are lubricated by the lubrication system
Id say change the bearing first and see how you go any problems pm me

Hi
Thanks for the reply, looks fairly straight forward to change, you wouldn't know the thrust bearing numbers by any chance?
Might also get the ball screw repaired at the same time, to make sure of things.

Part numbers are in manual however Colchester will only quote the complete cartridge, I normally break down the cartridge and fit thrust bearings , it takes longer but will save money , may give you time to get ball screw repaired
