Default Laser Cutting Woes: Epilog Laser Suddenly Won't Cut as Deep

    Howdy, All.

I have a 30-watt Epilog Zing CO-2 laser that I love. This morning I cut some Acrylic around 1/4" (6 mm) thick. It cut beautifully.

About three hours later, I cut the same sheet of Acrylic with the Epilog and it suddenly won't cut through. I tried it several times. Won't cut through.

I'm new to laser cutting, but my first thought was to clean all the lenses and mirrors. Would that be the best place to start, or should I be looking elsewhere? Again, I'm a novice.

BTW, here are the settings I used:

    SPEED: 50%
    POWER: 100%
FREQ: Tried both 2500 and 5000

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you asked Epilog's tech support?

I will next week if it persists. I was actually cutting the Acrylic to use as a jig to hold another material I'm cutting. Luckily, the other material isn't nearly as thick and is cutting just fine, so at this point it's more of a work-holding issue. But by next week I'll be back to cutting Acrylic, so I'll give them a call if still encountering this.

    Thank You,
