500mW laser engraver stopped burning

Hello everyone,
I have a 500mW laser engraver from here:
Laser Engraving Machine User Guide

I have used it for a while with no issues. I turned it on using the M3 command, and turned it off with M5. I just tried using it again, and for some reason the laser isn't able to get up to full power any more. It can turn dim when I use M5, and bright when I use M3, but it won't actually engrave anything, burn paper, etc. I tried using M3 S1000 to turn it to full power, and it doesn't work. I also tried M3 S0, and it stays on. So the S commands obviously don't work. Of course I'm not sure if they ever worked because I never used it.
It's like the "on" state has been changed to a lower power state for some reason.

Also, I did try focusing the laser again, and cleaning the lens, with no effect.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
