    Talking trying to get into lasers, need help!

    Hi guys

    i would like to get a cnc laser, i already have a cnc plasma machine which i would like to mount a laser module onto also..

    i have been researching but it seems there is a lot of different info out there and i have not been able to answer my questions fully.

    my questions for you people are;

    is there a laser module that will allow me to cut and engrave metal (mild steel, aluminium and stainless) as well as engrave and cut hard wood?

    how many Watts of laser power do i need to cut up to around 8mm thick of those metals and about 12mm thick in hard wood?

    i think thats all for now.

    cant wait to hear from you!

    Most of the lasers discussed on this site are CO2. You can only cut organic materials and acrylics with CO2. 12mm solid wood is on the thick side for typical lasers. If you do get the power to blast thru it the edge quality will not be great. I guess it depends on what the part is suppose to do.

    if you want to cut metal, fiber laser cutting machine is suitable for you. but if you want to cut wood, the best choice is co2 laser cutting machine. the two machines have different feature.

    you can check the following video for cutting 12mm wood
