How to get from dxf file minimum dimesions of sheet metal

Hello guys,

I would like to know the best way to get minimum rectangle dimensions from dxf file. Preferably automatic way. For example when I want to cut some funny shaped sign I would like to know minimal dimensions of a sheet metal rectangle that this shape still fits on. I was searching web how this dimension is called but I can find the right expression...

I attached also a picture with dimensions that I would like to know.

Hello, which software are using? In many software you need to select only your artwork and it gives you the limits: I usually use Careldraw, but if you are using Rdworks for laser cutting machine, it will give you the dimensions limits when you select your artwork.

Right now I use Inkscape and I send pdf. I would like to have some sort of automatic way to tell me dimensions as I have a project right now with lots of components and I need to create an excel file with minimum dimesnsions for each component.

I hope there is some kind of software that can help me with this...
