    Default Galvo engraving area limits

    Hey Guys,

We recently purchased a Galvo Direct Diode 20 Watt Fiber laser.

Our engraving area is 4"x4". The company has a couple of upgrades, with the next up being a 7"x7" area. Company says that moving up in size will affect the detail and engraving quality.

Does anyone have any real world experience? Anyone seen the difference between a 4x4 & 7x7 Galvo? Would the difference in quality be noticeable?

    Thanks!

Yes you can change out the lens, about a $200 or so cost. Mine is 150x150 mm instead of the standard 100x100 mm and I can see no issues. It does reduce your power slightly but not noticeable at least on mine anyway.

Its a Z-tech machine. Any idea where I can find a bulb for that price?

No bulb, its the Lens on the bottom of the galvo head. Its threaded in and has the size and other details engraved on it. Less than $200 USD.
How much are They going to charge you?? There is only a few Manufactures of those heads.

I'll have to take a look tomorrow. We just got the machine, so haven't had much chance to snoop around with the inner workings.

Waiting on official quote, but I believe around $8k. The machine cost $52k.

Its a direcr diode engraver. Does that matter? Or would the lens be the same?

Also, they want around $30k to upgrade the power supply. Does that sound right?

    Thank you!

You said fiber laser, I do not have any idea what a direct diode laser is or why you even purchased to do what? How can it be a direct diode with a galvo head?

    Is it like this? http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/152643...-1/s-l1000.jpg

I believe it is a combination. it's a Z-tech QM+ 20 watt direct diode. I purchased mainly to do deep safety markings on firearms.

You can mark legally to BATF spec's using either a 20 or 30 watt galvo fiber laser. About $5,000 to $8000 USD any day of the week.

We do thousands a week and we go much deeper than .003". The ATF minimum looks like crap. This 20 watt deep engraves faster than the few 50 watt fiber lasers we had do samples.

The 50 watt version of what we have would cut our time even shorter.

Do you know if power supplies are proprietary?
