Default How to get dxf silouette from physical part quickly?

    Hello,

We're getting a lot of clients coming with physical parts in hand asking for copies of those parts.
Copying the part to CAD to extract the dxf silouette takes a lof of time.

I was wondering if there was something out there to speed up this process for parts that are just lasercutting silouettes (eg; flat plate with holes, etc..)

I was thinking maybe a device that you'd place the part on top of a preasure plate or something and it would extract the negtive silouette and quickly get the 2D silouette with good accuracy.
Maybe optical scanner? I don't know.

I know how to get a silouette from a photo or scan with vector softwares (eg: inkscape), but that takes time also, that's not what i'm looking for.

What i'm looking for is something, commercially available, that can extract a 2D silouette from a physical part in seconds.

Does anyone know of something similar to that?

    Thanks in advance!
    Marc.

there is logicgroup they have these big tables you can get in various sizes. they are not cheap but you can instantly make a part into a dxf its pretty cool. google logicgroup dxf board and it pops up right away.

You can trace the part, scan it and then convert to outlines in a drawing program. If the part is large you can in get it scanned for a few bucks.
