My plasma torch not moving up and down..HYD-THC XPTHC-4H

Hi,

Today after finishing a job my plasma torch stopped working..it's not going up or down.
I have hypertherm power max 65,
HYD-THC xpthc-4h height controller and starfire control system.

Both up_limit n dn_limit led in HYD-THC are on..I think if those led goes off then my problem might be solved..wat may be the reason for them to turn on..
Pls help..

Problem got solved..
The parameters of xpthc-4h were somehow got reset to different value..
After changing the values everything started working fine.

I've had that problem and the sensor was faulty.
On the xpthc was blinking "collision alarm" (E5).

But sometimes it only stops for unknown reason
and then I turn off and on starfire and xpthc and it works fine again

I realize this is an older thread, but if anyone out there has any luck setting this machine up I would love to know how you did it. Trying to get mine to work with an Ethernet Smooth Stepper/MB3 BOB and Mach4. Can't for the life of me get the Up and Down signals to work.

I have an Ethernet Smooth Stepper (ESS) with an MB3 BOB running MACH4 and wanted to add torch height control to my plasma setup. I purchased a HYD XPTHC 4H because it seemed like it had many useful features. Well the horrible instructions for connecting to a CNC have left me scratching my head really bad. I can get the torch to fire and cut but no matter what I try I cannot get the UP/DOWN outputs to feed any signal to the ESS. Has anyone had any luck setting this device up?

The pin connections to ESS/MB3 are:

1 AUTO - Not Sure what it does and not connected

2 UP Up signal, Active low - No signal ever gets output connected to input X210 on MV3 BOB

3 DOWN Down signal, Active low - No signal ever gets output connected to input X211 on MV3 BOB

4 ARC ON with IHS, Active HI connected to Output Y314 on MV3 BOB - This works

5 EX ARC ON Arc start without IHS, Not connected seems its the same as pin4 but without THC

6 ARC Feedback - connected to input X211 on MV3 BOB (ARC OK signal works)

7 COLLISION output - Not using but it works when the probe activates

8 Control COM Isolation Control COM - Connected as common

If anyone has any solutions on how to make it work to send up and down signals to the ESS/MB3 that would be appreciated. I have spent hours with different settings in the control module to no avail.

Hey mate,

I have just bought the exact same machine as you and seem to be having the same problems. Wondering if you would please share with me all your parameter settings.

My machine doesn't seem to running well at all. It starts then stops by itself, sometimes it drags the copper coupling along the job, keep getting arc errors etc.
