Hi Guys
Was hoping that one of you brains could check my math on this... been running a machine for several years and am now building a purpose built 8 x 4 plasma table and am attempting to calculate the motors required. Pulled the math from the Gecko page.

As I said, 4 x 8 plasma, approx 45lb gantry on 1 inch rails with 2 trucks each side 4 tpi racks.

Torque- ((gantry weight)x(Inches /revolutions))/ ((2x pi)x(coefficient of efficiency)

Torque would be : (45 x (1/4))/ (2(pi)x.2) = 11.25/1.26 = 14.175 lbs per inch = 226.8 oz/inch torque

Desired max speed 5560mm per for cutting 1.2mm plate which is roughly is 220 inches per min, aim for 250 inches per minute.

((250 inches per min) x (4 rotations per inch))/60 = 16.7 rotations per second

200 * 16.7 = 3333 pulses per second from driver

((3333 pulses per sec) x (227 torque Calculated))/ 4506 = 167.9 oz per inch

Allowing for 40%

168 x 1.4 = 235 oz/inch

Divide this by 2 as there are two slaved motors for the x axis and I would need approximately 2 of 150 oz motors to drive the gantry.
Seems way way low to me.. but then even though I have run a machine for a fair while, I know very little about the math and correct sizing etc. Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mark
