I want to add a 4th axis by tilting the spindle motor left to right. The usual 4th axis along A or B would cause me many limitations, as my Z travel is only 80 mm and I like to carve flat bas relief art objects so when these rotate more that a few degrees the edges overwhelm the Z travel .
My question is : how does the CNC machine handle the motion if the pivot point of the new spindle axis is several CM above the tool tip. Is there a special G code for this that corrects the motion?
I'm not up to speed on the > 3 axis world yet.
In 3 axis if you move an axis , it only moves the tool in that axis. If I rotate my proposed 4th axis (tilting the spindle) the tool moves in x and Z as well. How is this managed ? I use Mach3 and solidcam.
Thanks for any pointers! I don't even know the correct key words to search for .
