Default Question about digital probe for edgefinding

I downloaded some cool scripts for z and X and y edgefinding ..
I using the old standard guage block and clip lead for my z zero..
But what are you guys using for X and y.
I have 5volts on the cliplead and the guage block is feeding the Bob.
    Z axis works great..
But if I try this with X or y and using a conductive metal in the vice.. one I hook up the 2 leads.. dead short..
The only thing I have come up with is to create a guage block like nonconductive on one side and just hold it there.

    What are you folks doing..
