Default Version control for NC files

Can anyone recommend a way to implement a version control system on NC files? Is this even something that exists?

Our shop has 10 woodworking CNC routers. We mainly run routine jobs, but find that code modifications get made which cause us scrap and downtime. Some of the modifications are authorized and necessary, others are hacks to avoid doing the right thing (cutter comp and coord system changes, etc).

For several reasons I can't make our code read-only at the machines.

I'd like to investigate a version control system (from the software world - git, CVS, Subversion, etc), which would make changes easier to spot, authorise, and if necessary roll back.

    Any thoughts?

You can put a windows password on it but then it would lock the whole machine. Just like your home computer

Hi, thanks, yeah this wouldn't work for us - the PC controller is needed while running the machines.

Thanks for this - this is the closest I've found so far.
    Anyone else using other solutions?
