A fan blowing on it is usually sufficient.
How necessary is it to have a good cooling system for Gecko G540? Is the size of the heat sink and the right thermal paste very important? And will it be necessary to open the driver box in order to apply thermal paste inside where the drivers are in touch with the aluminum back cover?

Yeah I'm 7 years in with a simple5V PC fan blowing on my G540. I added some heat sinks to it at one point but it didn't seem to do much,.
