Default G540 Spindle Control for X2 Cnc mini mill problem

    Hi,
I have tried to hook up the G540 vfd to my new x2 mill motor control that i purchased from Surplus Center. I used pminmo.com G540 VFD directions but this did not work. I talked to tech. support at Gecko and they informed me i needed to add an independent power source 10 volts to pos 9 and pos 7. I did this and was able to get 0 to 10v increase/ decrease, m3 and m5 shutdown through mach 3 control on pos 8 out. The G540 was not connected to the motor control just a Volt meter. Once hooked to the new motor control i could not get it to control the board? The board has a 5k pot and works fine with the pot. If i disconnect the pot the spindle ramps up to full rpm? Anyone have there x2 running spindle control from the g540 and care to share their wiring diagram?

    Thumbs up Mystery Solved

Thanks to the kind gentlemen-Arturo Duncan for his assistance in solving the G540 vfd mystery. The wiring format below works excellent. M3, M5, spindle increase/decrease, and spindle shutdown on E-stop. I used the Xml file from Pminmo.com/misc/540BVFD. This file worked far better than the Gecko Site Xml file.I used a 5 volt cell phone power supply for the vfd 10 volt pin, positive straight to the Gecko and ground spliced with wire coming from the vfd ground to connection S1. Seems to work fine. X2 Spindle control via the G540 is up and working; Cool!

    This is how it goes:

    SC G540 Function
    S1 VFD-GND P1 / Common for the analog signal.
    S2 VFD-OUTPUT P2 / Analog signal or wiper
    S3 Not used P3 / Reference voltage.

This is what i used for the x2 mini mill board. Caution, your board my be different.I used a 5v cell phone charger to send power to the g540 to control the spindle on/off. I also used the xml file that needs to be put in mach3 from Pminmo.com/misc/540BVFD. Put the cell phone positive to pin 9 (10 v pin). Cell phone ground to pin 7 and spliced with wire coming from the vfd ground to connection S1. Pin 8 wire direct from gecko to p2 output on spindle control board.Mach 3 spindle control needs to be checked on in order to work. Hope this helps.

any chance you can post a small diagram of what you did?
and a copy of that Pminmo file the site has been down for years
and the only people that have been successful at achieving spindle
control always point towards the Pminmo link for reference.

    Thank you
