Default Trouble Setting Up Spindle Relay

I am trying to get Mach 3 to turn my spindle on and off, but am not having much luck.

    • For a spindle I am using a Porter Cable 7519 (3.25 hp speedmatic)
    • For my electronics I am using CNC Router Parts Nema 23 Plug and Play Control System.

Currently, Mach 3 will not turn the router on using the MDI command M3. Whether or not the spindle is toggled on or off in Mach 3, if I manually turn the router off and then back on it will start. The router once running will not stop using the MDI command M5. If I close Mach 3 the router will stop.

I am attaching images of my settings.

    • The spindle is plugged into output 1 on CNC Router Parts Plug and Play Box. Output 1 blinks red on Mach 3 under diagnostics when the spindle is toggled on.
    • Ports and pins >> Motor Output port 1, pin 17
    • Ports and pins >> output signal >> output #1 port 1 pin 17
    • Ports and pins >> spindle setup >> M3 output #1 and M4 output #1

I am wondering, if I have something set wrong in Mach 3, if this is a problem with the variable speed in the router, or if this could be a hardware problem.

Any help you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Step direction pin in motor control should not be the same as the Output #1 pin.

I would disable the spindle on the Motor Outputs tab, and see if it works, as you'd only need that if you were using step/dir speed control. And you're probably not using speed control anyway, right?

It was just plug in the router on mine and off course the power cable to the input.

    I got it working!
I emailed CNC Router Parts. They said my Porter Cable will not draw enough power to activate the relay once tripped in Mach 3; I am guessing because it is a soft start.
They suggested I use a power strip from the control box, then plug in a night light, and the router into the strip. The night light will draw power immediately.
This has solved the problem. Definitely not what I was expecting and truthfully not what I was hoping for, but it works. Anyways thought I would post in case anyone was interested.
    Blessings.
