So we have come to the conclusion that we cannot drip-feed to our Fanuc 3M control without a set of expensive chips from Nexus. I am writing here as a last attempt to try and save us some cash. Is there any cheaper method to solve the issue of limited control memory? Maybe someone has a memory module/board that they want to part with? Does such a thing even exist for the 3M? I talked with some experts and they led be to be curious about these blue expansion slots on the motherboard (see image). Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
The base memory for the '3' control was 20m, with an additional 20m enabled by option parameter. A 40m memory card was available for a maximum 80m total.
Given the limited market for this control, Tulip Electronics did not develop any expansion for this control. Nexas (not Nexus) developed the set of eproms that overcame the memory limitation.
40m? Meaning megabytes? Or 40 meters of punched tape? I estimated this machine to only have 16K. We could do a lot more with 40MB or an extra 40m but our machine only accepts about 10K before we run out of space. Do you know what parameter controls that second 20m?
